If she's ready to become her teddy's nurse, get her ready for the role with a handmade hat.
Nurses are well known for their caring and compassionate role in the medical field -- and what a wonderful role model for your toddler to emulate during imaginative play. Wow your kindhearted kiddo with a brand new nurse hat to add to her dress-up box. You definitely don't have to break the bank for this accessory, so if it gets destroyed when nursing play turns into Battle of the Invading Nurse Aliens -- don't fret! Just make another hat in five minutes flat. And you thought being a Mommy was tough.
1Cut a piece of white paper so it measures 8 1/2-by-5 1/2 inches in size. Fold it in half to make it 4 1/4-by-5 1/2-inches, crease the fold and then unfold the paper.
2Lay the paper flat with one long edge directly in front of you. This is the bottom of the nurse hat. Fold the top right and left corners inward to the center crease. The top now makes a triangle point and you don't want it to stay that way. So, fold that point down to the middle of the paper. Now it's starting to look much more like a nurse hat than a plain old piece of paper. Tape or glue all the folded edges in place.
3Fold the bottom of the hat upward to meet the triangle tip in the middle. Now it's almost small enough for your youngster.
4Flip over the paper. Fold the bottom edge upward to the middle once more. Voila -- a nurse hat that will fit your kiddo
5Draw the outline of the traditional red cross symbol in the center of the hat. You can color in the cross or get your kiddo to help out with project by coloring it in with crayon or marker. That's it -- you're done! All that careful folding has paid off! And your youngster has a new accessory for her dress-up box. First off, she'll probably want to put you to bed, take your temp and feed you juice. A nurse and a sweetie. What could be better?
- If your wannabe nurse also happens to be a little fashionista, (and most little girls are!) add a little bit of glitz and glamor to the nurse hat with some glitter, glue and imitation gemstones.
