How to Make Felt Foam Crafts for Toddlers: 9 Steps - MakeSureHow
Edit Article

Gather inexpensive materials to make felt foam crafts.

If you are looking for a simple craft for your toddler that will help fill a rainy afternoon, consider making felt and foam creations to decorate her room or your refrigerator door for the week to come. Materials are inexpensive and easy to find at local craft and department stores, or you can use what you have available at home in your toddler’s art cubby. Working on foam craft projects develops her small motor skills and encourages creativity.

  1. 1
Draw a simple flower shape, such as a daisy or tulip, onto a piece of foam with a pencil and cut out the shape with scissors. Cut out small circle shapes from different colors of felt. Let your toddler glue the felt pieces onto the foam flower to decorate it. Wait for the glue to dry completely.
  2. 2
Tape one end of a piece of green pipe cleaner to the back of the foam flower.
  3. 3
Draw a leaf shape onto a piece of foam or felt with a pencil and cut out the shape with scissors. Let your child tape the leaf to the flower stem. Put the stem of the flower into a paper cup to serve as a vase.
  4. 4
Cut out two rectangle-shaped pieces of foam the same size. Cut an additional rectangle shape in the center of one of the pieces, leaving a 1-inch border, to serve as the front of the picture frame.
  5. 5
Glue three sides of the rectangle pieces together, leaving the top unglued. Allow the glue to dry completely.
  6. 6
Decorate the frame with felt and foam shapes, like stars, hearts or bugs. Glue the shapes to the frame and let the glue dry completely. Slide a favorite photo of your child into the frame.
  7. 7
Cut out a large donut shape from a piece of foam, approximately 10 inches in diameter and 4 inches wide. Cut out a smaller ring of foam that will fit on top of your donut shape to act as the icing on the donut. Glue the smaller ring onto the larger one and wait for the glue to dry.
  8. 8
Glue sprinkles, foam gumdrops and felt candies to decorate the top of the donut and let the glue dry completely.
  9. 9
Glue a magnet to the back of the donut so your tot can hang his work of art on the refrigerator.
