How to Dress Up My Four Year Old As a Rodeo Clown for Halloween
Edit Article

Let him live his rodeo clown dreams in his imagination on Halloween.

He's ready to stand in the spotlight and brave enough to garner the attention of enormous, blood-thirsty bulls. He's only 4-years-old and he's already gunning for a career in the rodeo ring. While you may not be quite ready for his career aspirations, give him a taste of rodeo excitement with an authentic-looking rodeo clown costume for his next Halloween party.

Steps

  1. 1
Dress your rodeo-loving preschooler in an oversized plaid shirt. You don’t actually have to make it oversized, but it makes the costume cuter. If you live in a cooler climate, make it a flannel shirt to add a bit of extra warmth for his trick-or-treating ventures.
  2. 2
Shorten a big kid or grown-up pair of jeans. Cut the jeans just below your munchkin's knee and then cut some fringe upward about 2 inches.
  3. 3
Have him try on the pants and then add pillowcases or old T-shirts around his waistline to make it large enough to hold up the pants. Add a belt to keep the pants and the stuffing in place.
  4. 4
Add a pair of brightly patterned suspenders to the costume. The suspenders will probably be a bit big for your little guy. Pin them together just below the back of his neck to hold the accessory in place.
  5. 5
Wrap a bright colored bandanna around his neck and then tie it loosely. The bandanna should be just as bright as the suspenders, but in a contrasting pattern.
  6. 6
Slide his kid-size toes into a bright patterned pair of adult-size socks and keep pulling until the socks touch the bottom of his knees. Again, the socks should be bright but contrast with the other accessories.
  7. 7
Put a pair of mismatched shoes on his feet. You can use cowboy boots if you prefer, but they may hide his outlandish socks.
  8. 8
Transform his little face into a clown face with costume makeup, but make sure the makeup is hypo-allergenic and washes off easily. You don’t want him going to school tomorrow still looking like a clown.
  9. 9
Complete the rodeo clown ensemble with silly looking wig and an authentic-looking cowboy hat.
