The Kindle is a popular variety of e-book reader produced by Amazon. Many of the available Kindle models are specifically designed for reading text and use high-contrast black and white screens. The Kindle Fire, however, is a full-featured tablet computer that can run many applications. This device features a full-color touchscreen display and is loaded with an email app. Once email account information has been entered, you can quickly use this app to view and send messages.

  1. 1
Set Up Email: Press the "Apps" button located on the main Kindle home screen. Tap the "E-mail" icon.
  2. 2
Tap the "Start" button on the email setup screen. Select your email provider from the list. Common providers such as Gmail and Hotmail are available.
  3. 3
Enter advanced email details when prompted. This is only necessary if the chosen account is not automatically recognized by the Kindle. These specific details, including server and port information, are available from the email provider. Common settings are available from the link in the "Resources" section.
  4. 4
Enter the account username and password for the selected email provider. Type a display name, which will be included on outgoing messages.
  5. 5
Select the option marked "Send mail from this account by default" to make this the primary email account. Tap the "Import contacts" button to automatically transfer all address book entries from the existing account.
  6. 6
Press "View your inbox." Verify that the email is successfully loaded from the chosen account.
  7. 7
View Email: Press the "Apps" button on the Kindle home screen. Tap "E-mail." The email from the default account will appear
  8. 8
Scroll to the button of the screen and press "Load up to 25 more" to show additional email messages. Alternatively, select the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the screen and choose a sort option such as "Newest" or "Oldest."
  9. 9
Press the "New Message" button at the bottom of the screen to compose an email message. Use the onscreen keyboard to type a message and press "Send" when ready.

  • The Kindle Fire is the only model that features a built-in email app. Other Kindle models, however, may be able to access web-based email. If the Kindle has a Web browser, browse to the Web mail address such as "" and enter the login information manually.
