The Sony Reader e-reader offers many navigation functions over and above the basic capability of flipping to the next or previous page by swiping the touchscreen or pressing the device's directional arrow buttons on older models. The Sony Reader's advanced navigation features let you quickly move back and forth through the book to skip pages that you don't want to read or find a specific page, chapter or content that you've previously bookmarked for future reference. After selecting and opening a book or magazine on the Sony Reader, change pages with the features available in the device's onscreen page-navigation panel.

  1. 1
Tap the page number indicator at the bottom of the screen to open the page navigation panel.
  2. 2
Swipe the tab on the paging bar slider to skip through multiple pages quickly, or tap on a point on the bar to open the corresponding page on the book or magazine.
  3. 3
Tap the "Enter Page #" button in the page-navigation panel. Touch the number buttons on the onscreen numeric pad to jump to a specific page number.
  4. 4
Tap the "Previous View" button to display the page history buttons that allow you to return to the page you were reading before jumping ahead. Tap the left-arrow backward page-history button to move backward in the page display history or tap the right-arrow page-history button to move forward through the list of previously displayed pages.
  5. 5
Tap the "Back" button to clear the page-navigation panel and continue reading.
  6. 6
Swipe the touchscreen from right to left to turn to the next page or from left to right to turn to the previous page.
  7. 7
Press the "Menu" button under the display screen. Select "More" and then "Orientation" to switch between landscape or portrait page display mode.
  8. 8
Press "Menu" and then tap "Font" to open the font options bar. Tap one of the font icons to select your preferred page font display size.
  9. 9
Tap the "Back" button to return to the page and continue reading.

  • To navigate through publications on older models of the Sony Reader without the touchscreen, use the function buttons under the device's screen. Press the right-arrow button to turn to the next page or the left-arrow button to move to the previous page. Press and hold down the right-arrow or left-arrow button to skip forward or backward through the e-book or magazine by 10 pages at a time. To jump to a specific page number, press the number buttons to enter a page number. The Sony Reader displays the selected page number overlaid on the center of the screen; to clear the page number from the screen, press the left-arrow button once.
