Backing up music, photos, contacts and video from your iPod to iTunes is part of the normal syncing process. However, you can back up these contents quickly and easily without sitting through a full sync. Performing this task on a regular basis is a good way to ensure your content is safe, even if the iPod is lost or irreparably damaged.
1Connect your iPod to your computer using the device's dock cable.
2Locate the iPod in the "Device" list on the left side of iTunes. Right-click on the iPod's name.
3Click on "Back Up" from the drop-down list. Observe the progress bar at the top of iTunes to monitor the process.
4Click on the "Eject" icon to the right of your iPod's name after the Apple logo appears on the progress bar to safely remove the device.
- Never remove the iPod or shut off the computer during an backup session. Data loss may occur.
