Facebook enables you to to share photos with friends and family while giving you a range of privacy options to specify who can or can't see your photos. To add a single picture quickly, you can post it to your Timeline. These photos are all stored in your Wall Photos album. To upload a whole group of photos at once, try using Facebook's photo albums. Photo albums let you group pictures by event or theme. You can specify the privacy settings for the album as a whole, as well as for each individual photo within the album.

Steps

    For Wall Photos: Log in to Facebook. Click the "Add Photo/Video" button located just above the "What's On Your Mind?" text field on your home page.

    Click the big "Upload Photo/Video" button and then click the "Browse" button to open a file navigation window on your computer. Select an image file and click "Open."

    Click the button that says "Public," "Friends" or "Custom" to select who you want, or don't want, to see the photo. Facebook uses this privacy selection as the default option the next time you post a photo.

    Type a message to go with the photo if desired and then click "Post." The photo is posted to your Facebook Timeline and is stored in the "Wall Photos" album. You should see it appear in your news feed.Using Photo Albums

    Using Photo Albums: Go to your Facebook home page and click the "Add Photo/Video" link near the top of the page. Select the "Create Photo Album" option.

    Select the photos you want to upload from the file dialog that appears. To select multiple photos, hold down the "Ctrl" key while clicking each photo. Click "Open" to open a new Untitled Album window with the progress of your upload displayed at the bottom.

    Click the "High Quality" option at the bottom of the page to maintain your photos' high resolution if desired. Note that higher quality photos are larger files and will not load as quickly as smaller ones in your friends' Web browsers.

    Click the "Untitled Album" title and type a name for your album.

    Click "Say Something About This Album" to add a description to the album.

    Click the text field beneath each photo to add a description for that image.

    Click the "Tag" icon -- it looks like a person with a "+" sign -- to tag yourself or friends in the photo. Click a face in the photo and then type the person's name in the text field.

    Click the "Clock" icon to specify the date the photo was taken. To add a location to the photo, click the "Location Pin" icon and then type the location.

    Click the "Public" button to specify who can or cannot see the album. Click the "Post Photos" button when you are finished. By default, all photos in the album use this privacy setting, but you can change these settings for individual photos.

    Visit your Timeline page, click "Photos," select an album and click the "Add Photos" button to add photos to that album. This option is not available in the Mobile Uploads or Wall Photos album.

    Cover Photos: Go to your Facebook Timeline page and click the "Add a Cover" button if you don't have one already. If you are changing your cover photo, hover your mouse over the cover photo and click the "Change Cover" button.

    Select "Upload Photo" from the drop-down menu that appears and then select any photo on your computer to use as a cover photo. Note that your cover photo needs to be at least 720 pixels wide.

    Click the photo after it has uploaded and drag it into the position you prefer. Click "Save."

Tips

  • If you install the Facebook app to your mobile phone or tablet, you can upload photos directly from your device by clicking the "Camera" icon in the app.
