Barnes & Noble generally positions its Nook Tablet as a first-in-class e-book reader with access to millions of e-book titles, but the device is capable of so much more. Running a customized version of the Android operating system, your Nook can handle a range of media, including music. Although the device lacks dedicated software for transferring media from your computer to the Nook, it does function similarly to an external hard drive or thumb drive, so adding music to it -- whether from a Windows or a Mac computer -- is a simple process.

Steps

  1. 1
For Windows: Connect the Nook Tablet to your computer using the USB cable that came with the device.
  2. 2
Press "Windows-E" to open File Explorer in Windows 8. If you are using Windows 7 or older, double-click "My Computer" on the desktop instead.
  3. 3
Double-click the Nook device, and then open the "My Files" folder.
  4. 4
Drag and drop music files from your computer to the Music folder located within the My Files folder on your Nook.
  5. 5
Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the Windows notification area and select your Nook to disconnect it from your computer.
  6. 6
For Mac OS X: Connect your Nook Tablet to your computer using the USB cable that was included with the Nook.
  7. 7
Click the "Finder" icon in the Dock, and then click the "Nook" icon in the "Devices" section of the Finder sidebar.
  8. 8
Open the "My Files" folder, and then drag and drop music files from your computer to the Music folder contained within My Files on your Nook.
  9. 9
Click the "Eject" button beside the Nook listing in the "Devices" section of the Finder sidebar once you have finished transferring music files to your Nook.

Tips

  • To play your music, simply navigate to the Nook home screen, and then tap the "My Stuff" icon to find your music folder.
  • The Nook Tablet supports the MP3, WAV, AMR and AAC music file formats.

Warnings

  • Information in this article applies to devices running version 1.4.3 of the Nook operating system. It may vary slightly or significantly with other versions or products.
